چکیده
Abstract We report the discovery of a candidate binary system consisting black hole (BH) and red giant branch star in Gaia DR3. This was discovered from 64,108 solutions for which both astrometric spectroscopic data are available. For this system, consistent with each other, making confident BH binary. The primary (visible) DR3 5870569352746779008, is whose mass quite uncertain. Fortunately, despite uncertainty primary’s mass, we can estimate secondary (dark) object to be >5.68 M ? probability 99%, based on orbital parameters. much larger than maximum neutron (?2.0 ), indicates that likely BH. argue that, if dark not BH, must more exotic orbits around quadruple (or higher-order multiple-star system) total 5.68 . If genuine binary, has longest period (1352.22 ± 45.81 days) among those so far. As our conclusion entirely relies data, independent confirmation follow-up observations (e.g., long-term time-series spectra) desired.

Black Hole Binary Dynamics
We discuss a new N-body simulation method for studying black hole binary dynamics. This method avoids previous numerical problems due to large mass ratios and trapped orbits with short periods. A treatment of relativistic effects is included when the associated time-scale becomes small. Preliminary results with up to N = 2.4×10 particles are obtained showing systematic eccentricity growth until...

www.physicstoday.org After decades of effort, numerical relativists can now simulate the inspiral and merger of two black holes orbiting each other. That computational triumph has come none too soon—physicists are on the verge of detecting gravitational waves for the first time, and at long last they know what to look for. Black holes are strong-field objects whose properties are governed by Ei...

Abstract We study parameter estimation with post-Newtonian (PN) gravitational waveforms for the quasicircular, adiabatic inspiral of spinning binary compact objects. In particular, the performance of amplitude-corrected waveforms is compared with that of the more commonly used restricted waveforms, in Advanced LIGO and EGO. With restricted waveforms, the properties of the source can only be ext...

I overview the current understanding of the evolution of massive black hole (MBH) binaries in the center of the host stellar system. One of the main questions is whether the stellar dynamical effect can make the MBH binary hard enough that they can merge through gravitational wave radiation. So far, theories and numerical simulations suggested otherwize, since the hardening timescale becomes ve...

We present results from a controlled numerical experiment investigating the effect of stellar density gas on the coalescence of binary black holes (BBHs) and the resulting gravitational waves (GWs). This investigation is motivated by the proposed stellar core fragmentation scenario for BBH formation and the associated possibility of an electromagnetic counterpart to a BBH GW event. We employ fu...
